DARLINGTON - Monticello sophomore Marissa Berg had a big game at the plate to lead the Ponies to a 15-3 non-conference win over Darlington on Tuesday.
Berg went 3-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Monticello (3-0) had 17 total hits and five players with multi-hit games. Freshman Jordan Garrison was 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and a triple and junior Jordyn Kubly was 2-for-3 with a triple. Senior Karlie Kolssner and sophomore Claire Gietzel each were 2-for-5.
"After that first inning, we really started to hit," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said.
The Ponies broke the game open with a nine-run sixth. Klossner pitched six innings and gave up three runs on five hits. She struck out five and walked three.
"Karlie threw pretty good considering the cold conditions," Garrison said.
