BARNEVELD - Despite getting just two hits in the contest, Barneveld scored six runs in the fourth inning and took advantage of five Monticello errors to top the Ponies, 8-5, in a Six Rivers East Conference game, Tuesday.
Sophomore pitcher Lukas Kolasch allowed no hits and struck out eight batters in four innings of work for Monticello, but the difference in the game was seven unearned runs scored by Barneveld. Michael Elzen also pitched for the Ponies.
"We had some great pitching," Monticello head coach Jason Pinnow said. "To hold a team like Barneveld to just two hits is pretty good."
Monticello scored two runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth to pull to within 6-4, but Barneveld added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to go back up at 8-4.
Junior Trae Seffrood went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Ponies.
Monticello (6-6, 5-4 Six Rivers East) hosts Pecatonica Thursday.
Clinton 24, Brodhead-Juda 15
BRODHEAD - The Clinton Cougars scored in every inning but the fifth to offset a 10-run fourth inning by the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals to win a slugfest, 24-15, in Rock Valley Conference play Tuesday.
Surprisingly, the game featured only one extra-base hit, a double by Brodhead-Juda senior Ethan Douglas. The Cardinals also got two hits from senior Jacob Covert.
Brodhead-Juda (1-12, 0-11 Rock Valley South) will travel to Orfordville Parkview Thursday.

Darlington (10-8, 6-6 SWAL) will host Riverdale Thursday and closeout the regular season Friday at Fennimore.
