MENOMONIE - The Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee B team has been struggling to put a full game together for almost a month so going into the Menomonie Tournament their goal wasn't focused on winning or coming home with a trophy, but rather pulling together as a team.
They wanted to find a way to get more shots on net and have fun playing the game they all love. The first game the Avalanche team lost to Waunakee 7-0. Avalanche goaltender Heath Bear recorded 25 saves.
Game 2, Saturday, Jan. 11 was against a much larger Stoughton A team and Monroe lost 4-0.
Even though the score showed no goals, the Avalanche played as team, did what they were suppose to do, played hard all three periods, and gave the Stouhgton A team a run for their money. Bear put on a stellar performance in net saving 44 shots and giving up only four goals.
The final game of the weekend was against Hudson on Sunday, Jan. 12 and the Avalanche lost 3-1. The Avalanche team picked up where they left off Saturday and played well against an evenly matched Hudson team.
The game was scoreless after the first period. However, early into the second period, Hudson scored first but the Avalanche quickly answered with a one-timer goal by Colton O'Connor who slapped in a centering pass from Ty O'Connor to tie it up 1-1. Penalties hurt the Avalanche as they gave up a power-play goal late in the second period to give Hudson a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
Bear recorded 15 saves on the game. The Pee Wee B team will now take on McFarland at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 in McFarland and Verona at 8 a.m. in Verona on Sunday, Jan. 19.
