BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica softball team is starting to believe after coming back to hand Juda its first Six Rivers East Conference loss, 5-4.
Juda freshman Amber Ramos pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out 16, including the first eight hitters she faced, walked five and hit a batter.
Ramos ran into trouble in the seventh as the Vikings rallied loading the bases. Pecatonica senior Kristin Johnson singled and Kaci Cassidy came through with a game-tying RBI single. After Ramos hit Amanda Schoepp, the Panthers brought in sophomore Aly Pierce who struck out Abby Smith-Krause and then hit Kaitlyn Linder to bring home the game-winning run.
With the win, Pecatonica improves to 4-8 overall and 3-4 Six Rivers East. Juda drops to 5-1 in league play.
"I think Ramos ran out of gas in the seventh," Pecatonica coach Chuck Meyer said. "Coaches have felt like we have been in a lot of games, but we have shot ourselves in the foot. It was exciting. The tables were turned a lot tonight."
Cassidy pitched a complete game and gave up five runs on four hits, struck out two, walked seven and hit two. Cassidy was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Johnson was 2-3 to lead the Vikings.
Ramos went 3-4 at the plate with four RBIs and Katlyn DeVoe was 2-3 for the Panthers.
"(Ramos) was a one-man wrecking crew," Meyer said.
