Pecatonica sweeps twinbill from River Ridge

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball team had a big offensive performance in rolling to a doubleheader sweep of River Ridge on Friday.

Pecatonica defeated River Ridge 13-3 in five innings in the first game, which was a Six River East game, and 20-6 in five innings in the nightcap, which was a nonconference game. Pecatonica improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 Six Rivers East.

Pecatonica senior Jarrett Carlson went a combined 7-for-8 in the doubleheader and senior Presly Hauser was 5-for-9.

"We hit the ball pretty consistently," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "They made some errors, and we took advantage of the opportunities they gave us. That was good to see."

Pecatonica junior Evan Prust started the first game and pitched three innings to get the win. He gave up two runs on three hits. Prust struck out three and walked two. Senior Dakota Conwell pitched 12⁄3 innings and surrendered one hit. He walked three and hit one. Sophomore Carter Ruegsegger pitched one-third of an inning in the first game and worked out of a bases-loaded jam. Ruegsegger pitched one inning and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second game.

"I put him in a couple of tough situations, and he got us out of a couple of bases-loaded jams," Strommen said.

Carlson went 3-for-3 in the first game, and Hauser went 3-for-4. Prust went 2-for-3.

The Vikings jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second game before the Timberwolves mounted a comeback and cut the deficit to 9-6. The Vikings put the game away with an 11-run fifth.

The Vikings pounded out 21 hits in the nightcap. Carlson went 4-for-5, and sophomore Colton Schraepfer was 3-for-4. Senior Cory Linder went 3-for-5, and Prust was 2-for-2. Conwell went 2-for-3, and Hauser was 2-for-5.

Pecatonica sophomore Lane Busser pitched 11⁄3 innings in relief to get the win. He gave up two hits, struck out two and walked two. Carlson started on the mound and pitched 21⁄3 innings. He gave up five hits, struck out two and walked three.

"Our pitchers struggled throwing strikes at times," Strommen said. "We came through on offensive and had a good answer in the fifth."New



Glarus 4, Lodi 3

NEW GLARUS - Junior Andrew Nimtz delivered a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give New Glarus a walk-off win against Lodi.

New Glarus' Dylan Legnar led off the seventh with a single. Josh Gray came in as a courtesy runner and took second on a wild pitch. Junior Noah Zimmerman then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Gray to third to set up Nimtz's heroics.

"Ecstatic," New Glarus coach Chris Rear said to describe the Glarner Knights' feelings after Nimtz's game-winning hit. "Extreme excitement. It's a feeling they have not had a lot. They kept on working hard, and they earned it."

Nimtz went 2-for-3 and Legnar was 2-for-4. Jared Carney also went 2-for-4 .

Senior John Chenoweth pitched four innings to get the win. He didn't give up an earned run and walked one.



Argyle 12, Potosi 5

Potosi 21, Argyle 5 (5)

POTOSI - Argyle split a doubleheader with Potosi.

Argyle senior Cam Treuthardt had three hits, four RBI and pitched the Orioles to a 12-5 win in the first game of the twinbill, which counts in the conference standings. Treuthardt pitched five innings and gave up five runs and struck out seven. The Orioles won despite committing five errors.

Argyle junior Brent Ritschard also had two hits.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Potosi scored eight runs in the second inning to cruise to the five-inning win. Argyle (2-2) committed seven errors in the second game.
