Pecatonica routes Six Rivers rival Black Hawk

SOUTH WAYNE — Juniors Griffin Noll, Bo Stateler, and Luke Leonard combined for 43 points, leading the Pecatonica Vikings to a 68-33 win over the Black Hawk Warriors in Six Rivers East boys basketball on Tuesday Jan. 20.

Noll was the leading scorer for the Vikings with 19 points. Stateler and Leonard each scored 12 points as the Vikings won for the third time in their last four games.

Junior Brody Argall led the Warriors with eight points and sophomore Grant Quinn pulled down nine rebounds for Black Hawk.

After junior Cole Dunlavey pulled Black Hawk to within one point at 7-6 with 12 minutes to play in the first half, the Vikings held the Warriors scoreless for nearly six minutes while taking a 19-6 lead. Pecatonica closed the half with baskets by senior Austin Enloe and Stateler, and a free throw by Cooper Schraepfer before Cooper Baumgartner of Black Hawk hit a three at the buzzer but the Vinings had a 33-15 lead at halftime.

Noll got a three-point play and a breakaway layup and Stateler scored a basket inside to start the second half and Pec built a 42-16 lead with 13:30 left in the game. Leonard got a steal and a layup with 7:00 to go as the Vikings took a 57-27 lead. It was the second consecutive game in which the Vikings won by over 30 points.

Pecatonica coach Scott Noll said his team has been working hard to contest their opponent’s shots and it paid off against Black Hawk. “We’ve been working a lot on our rotations and our angles. They did have good shots, but for the most part, I thought we did a good job of contesting and securing the rebound afterwards which has been kind of an Achilles heel for us,” acknowledged Noll.

Pecatonica (9-4, 5-3) had a Six Rivers conference crossover game scheduled at Benton on Thursday Jan. 22 while Black Hawk (3-10, 2-6) had their game at Highland on Friday Jan. 23 postponed due extreme cold. The Warriors next scheduled game is Monday Jan. 26 at Argyle.
