Pecatonica rolls past Albany

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball team scored six runs in the fifth inning and senior pitcher J.J. Hogan scattered seven hits in a 12-3 victory against Albany in Six Rivers East Conference action Tuesday.

Senior Mitch Steinhoff delivered a two-out, two-run single and junior Jake Scoville had an RBI single in a three-run second inning for the Vikinigs, which gave them a 4-1 lead.

Freshman Drew Schliem's two-run RBI single and Hogan's RBI single highlighted a six-run fifth that gave Pecatonica an 11-1 lead.

"It's a good bounce back from Monday's loss to Barneveld," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said.

Scoville went 3-for-4 and Hogan went 2-for-4 as the Vikings collected 11 hits. Hogan allowed just two earned runs with five walks and 11 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Sophomore Ethan Pfeuti had two hits for Albany.

Barneveld 7, Monticello 5

MONTICELLO - Josh Kolasch drove two runs for Monticello as the Ponies turned in what coach Jason Pinnow called their "best effort so far this year" against the Six Rivers East Conference favorite.

Senior Lukas Kolasch pitched a complete game for Monticello (0-5, 0-2 Six Rivers).

Brodhead-Juda 12, East Troy 11

EAST TROY - Senior Tyler Malcook went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple and the Brodhead held on for the Rock Valley South win.

The Cardinals led 11-0 early, thanks to an eight-run second inning. But the Trojans came back with six runs in the third and two more runs in the fourth. A single run in the fifth inning for the Cardinals proved to be the difference as the Trojans rallied for three runs in the sixth.

Junior Derek Turner was 3-for-4 with a double and junior Tyler Davis pitched three innings in relief to get the win.

Southwestern 13, Darlington 3

HAZEL GREEN - Southwestern scored nine runs over the second and third innings to beat Darlington in six innings in Southwest Wisconsin Activities League play. Darlington's Tyler Black gave up nine runs, of which only three were earned. Black struck out six and walked four.

New Glarus 6, Poynette 1

POYNETTE - Senior Evan Hauge pitched seven strong innings, drove in a pair of runs, and scored a run to lead the Glarner Knights.

Hauge allowed one run on just five hits. He struck out three and walked one. Hauge was 2-for-4 while junior Spencer Jones scored two runs for the Glarner Knights (2-3).

Softball

Shullsburg-Benton 16, Black Hawk 2

Jen Wellnitz and Alexis Warrell had Black Hawk's lone hits and the Warriors had seven errors.
