HAZEL GREEN - Southwestern junior shortstop Derek Edmonds went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double and drove in three runs to lead the No. 2 seed Wildcats to a 4-3 win over the third-seeded Pecatonica Vikings in a Division 4 Regional semifinal Tuesday.

Southwestern got three runs in the third inning, and scored what proved to be the winning run in the fourth off of Pecatonica starting pitcher Tannar Johnson.

The Vikings weren't able to do much against Wildcats starter Kirby Grutz until a three run rally in the seventh inning. With two outs and protecting a 4-3 lead, Edmonds came on in relief of Grutz to face Tyler Francois and struck out the senior to preserve the win for the Wildcats.

Senior Ross Gilbertson went 2 for 2 for the Vikings, while Johnson pitched seven innings, giving up four runs, seven hits, and six walks. He also struck out four batters.

Pecatonica ended its season at 13-11. Southwestern improved to 15-6 and will travel to No. 1 seeded Barneveld today for the regional championship.
