BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica-Argyle senior Riley Ostby rushed for 115 yards and scored three touchdowns to help the Vikings roll to a 20-9 win over Iowa-Grant in a WIAA second-round football playoff game Friday.

Pecatonica-Argyle (11-0) advances to the state quarterfinals and will host Melrose-Mindoro (9-2) next week.

The Vikings' defense limited Iowa-Grant running back Brayden Johnson to just 76 rushing yards. Johnson entered the game with 1,799 rushing yards this season.

"We are pleased with how we controlled that," Pec-Argyle coach Larry Green said.

Ostby had a 12-yard TD run about midway through the first quarter to give the Vikings an early lead. He scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter to extend the Vikings' advantage to 14-0. Ostby then tossed a 4-yard TD pass to Cory Linder to give the Vikings a 20-0 lead at the half.

Mineral Point's Isaac Anderson caught a 14-yard TD pass in the third quarter.

With Pecatonica-Argyle holding a 20-7 lead and setting up to punt from their own 2-yard line, Green elected to have his team take a safety.

"We took a safety so we could get better field position," he said.

Pecatonica-Argyle junior quarterback Logan Green completed 4 of 8 passes for 57 yards with one interception.

Since Melrose-Mindoro is about 150 miles from Argyle, Green said the game could be played on Saturday since the state quarterfinal opponent is more than 120 miles away.

"I think they (Melrose-Mindoro) want to play on Saturday," Green said. "There is a good chance we will have to probably play on Saturday. It's not official yet."
