Pec wins on a walk-off; Barneveld shuts down Ponies

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica sophomore Easton Schraepfer came up with some heroics delivering a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Vikings escape Argyle Monday 5-4.

With the win, Pecatonica (11-4, 8-1 Six Rivers East) takes a three-game lead in the conference over the Orioles.

"I told the guys after the bottom of the sixth inning we had the bottom of our lineup coming up and they were going to win it," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "They came through. It was a team effort. Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit. Our relief pitching was really good."

Pecatonica junior Lane Busser, who went 3-for-4, led off the seventh with a single. Junior teammate Zander Brunker then bunted and reached on a fielder's choice after Busser beat a throw at second base. Schraepfer followed with the game-winning hit to score Busser.

Easton Schraepfer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and junior Carter Ruegesegger was also 2-for-4. The Vikings used four pitchers. Busser started on the mound and went two innings. He gave up three runs on three hits, walked three and hit one. The final pitcher to come in - junior Colton Schraepfer tossed one shutout inning in relief to get the win and struck out one.

Argyle senior Brent Ritschard went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Orioles. Sophomore teammate Gavin Johnson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one double.

Argyle junior Mitch Flannery pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on seven hits, while striking out five and walking three.



Barneveld 13,

Monticello-Albany 3

BARNEVELD - The Monticello-Albany baseball team lost its 10th straight game, falling to Barneveld in five innings Monday.

The Golden Eagles limited the Ponies to just four hits. Monticello-Albany (1-12, 0-9 Six Rivers East) scored three runs in the first inning and had a short-lived lead. Barneveld (9-3, 4-3 Six Rivers East) scored four runs in the bottom of the first and rolled after that. The Eagles led 8-3 after three innings. Barneveld put the game away with a five-run fifth.

Monticello-Albany sophomore Devin Holtz went 1-for-2 with a double and junior Corbin Kelley was 1-for-3.

Monticello-Albany coach Scott Smice said coaches have preached all year about making the fundamental defensive plays. Barneveld had just seven hits off three Monticello-Albany pitchers.

"We struggle with the mental side of baseball and where to go with the ball," Smice said. "The last several games we have been hitting with teams."
