BELLEVILLE - The Vikings scored early and often in their first four innings of a makeup game against Belleville on Thursday, winning 8-5.
Pecatonica started things off by scoring three runs in both the third and fourth innings, which was enough to hold the Wildcats. A couple of players pulled through at the plate for the Vikings in moments where it counted the most.
"We had some key hits from a couple of guys tonight," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "They had some big RBIs, and they did a nice job in getting the bats moving, and being able to capitalize with guys in scoring position."
Pecatonica had nine hits, led by Senior Tyler Hodgson, who was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Sophomore Kyle Kleppe went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Chase Norton picked up the win for the Vikings, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs, seven hits, four walks while striking out nine.
Wis. Heights 13, Argyle 4
ARGYLE - The Argyle baseball team hosted its home opener against one of Division 3's top teams in Wisconsin Heights. Mishaps in the field ended up costing the Orioles, as the visiting Vanguards ran away with the game in a 13-4 loss for Argyle.
"I would say that we weren't really ready to play," Argyle coach Chuck Bredeson said. "We got down early, and then once the pressure was off, we started to play OK."
The Orioles committed seven errors, with the bulk of the mistakes occuring in the infield.
"We made a lot of errors on otherwise routine plays," Bredeson said. "I don't know if it's because of us getting our first exposure on our home field or what. Our attitudes need to be ready to go at the beginning of games and able to last all the way through."
Colton Ploessl pitched four innings for the Orioles in the loss. Offensively, Argyle was led by senior Alec Treuthardt, who went 2-for-4 with a double.
East Troy 13, Brodhead/Juda 2
EAST TROY - The Brodhead/Juda baseball team lost a 13-2 matchup between cross conference opponents East Troy on Thursday. With the loss, Brodhead/Juda moves to 2-2 on the season.
