HOLLANDALE - The top three hitters in the Pecatonica baseball team's lineup was like a murder's row against Albany on Friday.
The Vikings top three hitters - Lee Vlasak, Milton Kurschner and Devin Jeglum combined for seven hits and seven runs scored in handing the Comets their first Six Rivers East Conference loss, 12-2 in six innings.
Jeglum, who was 3-for-3, crushed a two-run homer to left to highlight a five-run second inning.
Albany senior Tyler Bauman pitched five innings and gave up 11 runs on nine hits. He struck out four, walked two and hit two.
Kurschner finished 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs and Vlasak also was 2-for-3.
"They did the damage for us tonight," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said about the Vikings' top three hitters.
With the win, Pecatonica improves to (5-0, 2-0 Six Rivers East).
Kurschner picked up the win after pitching six innings and giving up two unearned runs on two hits. He struck out four, walked three and hit one. The Vikings were plagued by four errors.
"He was high in the strikezone," Strommen said. "He got better as the game went on. He was able to work his way out of some trouble."
With the loss, Albany drops to (4-2, 2-1).
"We played poorly," Albany coach Brian Dahl said. "We were not our best and had quite a few errors."
Monticello 8, Argyle 0
MONTICELLO - Brandon Holz pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out 11 batters as the Ponies picked up its first conference win.
Kevin Berg had a two out single against Holz in the first inning, and Monticello cruised the rest of the way on defense.
The Ponies scored one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and then scored five in the sixth off of Oriole reliever Nate Thomas.
"We hit the ball hard in the fifth and sixth inning," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said. "Early in the game we didn't. We had bases loaded twice early on and couldn't get a hit."
Al Gierhart was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Ponies and Tyler Ritschard and Jacob Marty each had doubles.
"Bubba (Holz) pitched so well that even though we scored those late runs I wasn't worried. He was relaxed to close out the game," Pinnow said.
Andy Bohlman started on the hill for the Orioles and struck out seven in five innings.
Juda 9, Black Hawk 3
JUDA - The Panthers scored six runs in the fourth inning to get on top of Payton Schliem and the Warriors.
