JUDA - The Pecatonica girls basketball team will roll into the regional tournament with some momentum after routing Juda 70-37 Friday night.

Pecatonica (13-7, 7-5 Six Rivers East) used a press throughout the first half to jump out to kick-start a big lead. The Vikings outscored the Panthers 19-8 in the first quarter and led 48-16 at halftime.

Juda coach Curtis Brown said pressure without a doubt was the key to the game.

Pecatonica junior Kimee Chandler scored a game-high 19 points and Brittany Kent added 17 points for the Vikings. Chandler scored 12 of her 19 points in the second quarter where the Vikings outscored the Panthers, 29-8.

"Kimee Chandler just kind of took over in the second quarter," Brown said.

Pecatonica sophomore Ellie Gifford, junior Megan Rindy and sophomore Alisha Esselstein scored eight points each.

Juda (10-10, 3-9) was led by junior Larissa Klemm and freshman Ellen Kiser who scored nine points apiece. Juda junior Katy Knudtson scored eight points and junior Heather Boeke chipped in seven.

The Cubans outscored the Redbirds 20-13 in the second quarter to build a 10-point halftime lead.

"We talked at halftime that we had to make a run," Darlington coach Kurt Cohen said. "If we made a run, we were back in the ballgame. They (Cuba City) are No. 1 for a reason. I don't think they ever ran away and hid from us. They were just methodical."
