Pec, Black Hawk score wins in Six Rivers Challenge

POTOSI - The showdown between the top two teams in the Six Rivers Challenge was all Pecatonica as the Vikings rolled to a 64-52 win over Potosi Friday.

Pecatonica junior Colton Schraepfer scored a team-high 19 points to lead the Vikings to the win. Pecatonica (12-5, 8-0 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 35-19 lead at the half and cruised from there.

"It was a good win for us," Pecatonica coach Matt Fink said. "We lost to them earlier in the year when Colton (Schraepfer) was out. We wanted a little bit of redemption and we wanted to represent our side of the conference."

Pecatonica senior Evan Prust and junior Zack Eaton each added 12 points. Potosi's Brady Curtis scored a game-high 22 points.



Black Hawk 61, Cassville 41

CASSVILLE - The Black Hawk boys basketball team got hot from the outside and hit eight 3-pointers en route to a win over Cassville in the Six Rivers Challenge Friday.

Black Hawk (11-5, 5-4 Six Rivers East), the third-place team in the Six Rivers East, raced out to a seven-point lead at the break against their Six Rivers West counterparts. However, the Warriors outscored the Comets 29-16 in the second half to seal the victory.

Black Hawk junior Conner Meyer scored a game-high 17 points and drilled three 3-pointers. Both seniors C.J. Leuzinger and Jett Rufenacht each added 16.

"It's the time of year in February when you want to be playing your best basketball," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "The season is winding down. We did a really nice job of shooting. We got the ball in the high post and kicked it out to open shooters."

Cassville's Mason Infield scored a team-high 13 points and Brandon Kinyon added 12.



Benton 52, Monticello 47

BENTON - Monticello sophomore Reece Rufer scored a game-high 25 points and had seven rebounds, but, the Ponies couldn't come back to tip the Zephyrs.

Monticello (6-9, 3-4 Six Rivers East) trailed by 11 points at the half, 33-21. The Ponies rallied and came back to tie the game at 36 with 8 minutes, 47 seconds left in the second half.

"We tied it several times after that, but couldn't quite get over the jump," Monticello coach Mark Olson said.

Monticello senior Jon Errthum added 12 points and had nine rebounds.

Benton was led by Wyatt Bastian who scored a team-high 15 points and hit three 3-pointers.

Also in the Six Rivers Challenge, Argyle edged Belmont 50-45, Albany topped Highland 62-56 and Juda ran past Shullsburg 59-46. With the win, Juda (6-10), the fourth-place team in the Six Rivers East, has now won three straight games. Argyle improves to 5-12 overall and Albany improves its overall record to 6-12.



New Glarus 93, Waterloo 61

WATERLOO - New Glarus junior point guard Jaden Kreklow scored a game-high 25 points to power the Glarner Knights to a win over Waterloo in the Capitol South Conference.

New Glarus junior Zach Feller added 17 and junior Trevor Gassman pitched in 16. Senior Cullen Brooks chipped in 10. Kreklow and Feller each hit two 3s. With the win, New Glarus improves to 17-0 overall and 7-0 in the Capitol South.

Top-ranked New Glarus raced out to a 21-point lead, 45-24. The Knights shot 60.7 percent from the free-throw line (17 of 28).

Waterloo's Peter Miller scored a team-high 19 points and Easton Ellis added 17.

In the other boys basketball game Friday, Darlington crushed Riverdale 76-28.

Darlington (11-5, 7-3 SWAL) is third in the league, one-half game behind second-place Fennimore. The Redbirds have won five of their past six games with the only loss in that stretch coming to conference leader Mineral Point (13-4, 8-1 SWAL).
