BRODHEAD - Brodhead-Juda senior Ned Slocum scored four touchdowns to power the Cardinals to a 43-7 win over Palmyra-Eagle Friday.

Slocum rushed for 123 yards on seven carries and scored two touchdowns. He had two receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Brodhead-Juda's Dylan Kubly rushed for 110 yards on six carries and scored one touchdown.

Brodhead-Juda junior quarterback Matt Schmitt completed 4 of 5 passes for 82 yards and three touchdowns. With the win, Brodhead-Juda improves to 1-2, 1-0 Rock Valley South.

"We didn't talk like it was a must-win," Brodhead-Juda coach B.J. Bockhop said after the Cardinals lost their first two games late in the fourth quarter to River Valley and Evansville-Albany.

"We wanted to make sure we started out 1-0 in conference."

The Cardinals, the Rock Valley South co-champions last year, racked up 437 total yards, including 368 yards on the ground.

Kubly kick-started the Cardinals by taking off on an 81-yard TD run. Schmitt hooked up with Slocum on a 52-yard TD pass later in the first quarter to give the Cardinals a 13-0 lead.

Schmitt then connected with Skylar Stuckey on a 9-yard TD pass in the second quarter to help the Cardinals take a 27-7 halftime lead.

"I think the kids really needed to get out to a lead," Bockhop said. "In the first two games we have got down and had to fight back. We got the momentum and kept our foot on the gas."

WAUTOMA 57,

NEW GLARUS-MONTICELLO 29

NEW GLARUS - A strong first half that led to a 16-13 lead couldn't carry the Glarner Knights to their first victory of the season.

Drew Pickett scored on a 5-yard pass from John Chenowith, Trent Siegenthaler kicked a 22-yard field goal, and Tanner Jelle scored on a 3-yard rush to give the Glarner Knights the upper hand in the first half.

Their defense held Wautoma to 17 rushing yards in the first half.

The second half was a different story. Wautoma ran for 317 yards.

Wautoma scored three touchdowns in the third quarter and had the ball for all but three plays in the fourth quarter. Wautoma finished with 514 total yards.

NG-M's only rushing play in the fourth quarter was Colin Reeson's 80-yard touchdown.

Jelle rushed for another 3-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Trey Taylor led the Knights' rushers with 120 yards on 21 carries.

NG-M finished with 403 total yards, 256 rushing and 147 passing.

Darlington 48, Riverdale 8

MUSCODA - Darlington junior fullback Hunter Johnson rushed for 171 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Redbirds past Riverdale.

Darlington (3-0, 1-0 SWAL) racked up 429 total rushing yards.

Darlington running back Conrad Blosch piled up 114 rushing yards on 13 carries and scored one touchdown. Trevor Johnson ran for 88 yards on six carries and added two touchdowns.

"We are physically superior to them," Darlington coach Scott Zywicki said. "They just couldn't match our size or speed. We really hit them with some big runs early that kind of broke their back.

The Redbirds had three pass interference penalties and a defensive holding penalty.

"Defensively, we really need to work on our tackling," Zywicki said. "We have to clean up our assignments and we can't have those penalties."

Darlington will host Mineral Point in a showdown of unbeaten teams next Friday. The Pointers run a prolific spread offense.

"You have to get pressure on their quarterback," Zywicki said. "If you let them run and pass you won't be able to stop them."

EVANSVILLE - Sophomore quarterback Zach Mielke passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns to help the Blue Devils cruise to a 50-23 win over East Troy.
