SOUTH WAYNE - Both the Pecatonica-Argyle girls and boys track teams placed second in the seven-team Black Hawk meet on Thursday.
River Ridge swept both the girls and boys team titles.
The River Ridge girls racked up 184.5 points to win the title ahead of Pecatonica-Argyle (95). Black Hawk took fifth (36) and Albany was sixth (22).
In the boys meet, River Ridge rolled to the championship with 218 points, which was well ahead of runner-up Pecatonica-Argyle (113.5). Albany finished sixth (27.5) and Black Hawk was last (16.5).
The Warriors are down to three boys and three girls competing in track. Even with the small numbers, Black Hawk coach Kristina Rynes was encouraged by the results.
"Our main goal was to take advantage of a beautiful night and get out there and do our best," Rynes said. "I feel like all six athletes left their track and field events feeling as if they put in a good effort. With such a small group, we celebrate every success."
In the girls meet, Pecatonica-Argyle senior Josie Penniston won the 200-meter dash (27.56) and the 400 (1:01.38). Pecatonica-Argyle senior Liz Tisch won the 100 (13.61).
Black Hawk junior Haley Gertsch placed second in the 400 (1:05.43) and third in the 100 (13.92). Pecatonica-Argyle freshman Valerie Carr was second in the 100 (13.75).
"Haley ran some great races," Rynes said. "She is hopeful to earn a sectional qualifying spot in the 100 and 400, but she knows how much talent we have in our regional. She was happy to run so close to Pec-Argyle's Tisch and Carr tonight and said she stumbled down the stretch (in the 100). She has a great work ethic and definitely has the potential to make all-conference and have a good running at regionals."
Black Hawk sophomore Grace Neff finished second in the 800 (2:46.43) and third in the long jump with a personal-best of 12 feet, 10 inches.
The Vikings' 1,600 relay team of Tisch, Carr, Adriana Johnson and Penniston won with a time of 4:31. The Vikings also took second in the 400 relay (58.27), finishing 0.20 seconds behind champion River Ridge.
Pecatonica-Argyle junior Taetum Pagel won the high jump (4-8), while Albany sophomore Sydney Mortaloni placed third (4-4).
In the boys competition, Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Joseph Tisch won the 800 (2:23.47) and placed third in the 400 (57.74).

Joseph Tisch and Flannery teamed with Kyle Hartley and Troy Nickels to win the 1,600 relay (9:56.72).
Junior Owen Thornson took second in the shot put (36-7) for the Vikings and junior teammate Caeden Meeden was third (33-81⁄2).
Pecatonica-Argyle freshman Jaden Hendrickson took third in the long jump (16-11). Freshman teammate Dalton Turner took third in the 300 hurdles (50.20). The Vikings' 800 relay team also finished second (1:44.93).

"Karl is striving for the 100-foot mark, so this is exciting for him," Rynes said. "He has been working on some new things in practice with the discus and will hopefully continue to see improvements going into conference and regionals."
