Park & Rec baseball, softball deadline looms on April 11

The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for Junior and Senior softball leagues and American and National Baseall Leagues now through Wednesday, April 11.

Registration forms are available at the Parks & Recreation Department. The forms need to be turned in or mailed to the Parks & Recreation office located at 1110 18th Ave. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $28 for each player, which includes a T-shirt.

Girls Softball

The Junior League is for girls who will be entering fifth to seventh grades in September 2012. Junior League will play games on Monday nights beginning on June 4. Practices will begin in May. Last year game times began at 5:30 p.m. Games are played at Twining Park, Northeast, and out of town.

The Senior League is for players who will be entering seventh to ninth grades in September 2012. Senior League will play games on Monday nights beginning on June 4. Last year game times began at 5:30 p.m. Games are played at Twining Park, Northeast, and out of town.

The seventh graders have a choice to play in the Junior or Senior League depending on their ability level.

Boys Little League Baseball

The American League is for players who will be entering fourth or fifth grade in September 2012. The American League will play games on Wednesday nights beginning June 6. Practices will begin in May. Last year game times began at 5:30 p.m. Games are played at Northeast Park, Twining Park, and out of town.

The National League is for players who will be entering sixth or seventh grade in September 2012. The National League will play games on Monday nights beginning June 4. Practices will begin in May. Last year game times began at 5:30 p.m. Games this year will be played at Northeast Park, Twining Park, and out of town.

A new player clinic is mandatory for new baseball and softball players and will be held on April 25 at Twining Park from 5:30-7:30 p.m. New girls softball players will be on Twining East and new boys baseball players will be on Twining West. This clinic is for new entering baseball and softball players who have not been in Park & Recreation Monroe Baseball or Softball leagues previously. This clinic is to rate the skill level of each player. Players should take a glove to the clinic.
