BLANCHARDVILLE - The Panthers continued their strong play in the Six Rivers East taking all three sets against Pecatonica 25-5, 25-20 26-24.
Morgan Abkins led Juda (3-1 Six Rivers East) with 16 digs and Jessica Jordan chipped in with 11.
The Vikings (0-9, 0-5 Six Rivers East) got stronger as the match went on, but they came up just short in a third set that was stretched to extra points.
"We put up a good fight in that last game," Pecatonica coach Tori Leonard said. "Emily Gruenenfelder was serving well and helped us come back, but we couldn't quite finish it in the end."
Gruenenfelder had 11 aces while Juda had none despite winning in straight sets. Tabatha Davis and Jessica Jordan had five kills apiece to lead the Panthers.
"This match marks the halfway point in the season," Leonard said. "Hopefully we will be better prepared when we play each team a second time."
Monticello 3, Barneveld 2
The Ponies got off to a slow start, dropping the first two sets against Barneveld before rallying to win the match 23-25, 16-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-10.
Clare Bruns was huge for Monticello (7-2 overall, 4-0 Six Rivers East), leading the team with 41 assists. Her performance aside, Ponies coach Scott Smice said they could improve their passing.
"We are not passing to a position where we are using all of out hitters," Smice said. "Our passing still needs more work and that is what we will focus on."
The Eagles nearly won the match despite being without one of their top players, junior Rachel Slaney, who was out with a sprained ankle.
"We were a little tentative in hitting the first couple games," Smice said. "We started to use our big hitters in the later games and that really turned things around."
Alyssah Kubly had 14 Kills and Marissa Berg had 13. Berg also had 12 blocks to lead the Ponies.
Argyle 3, Albany 0
ALBANY - Argyle freshman Kayla Butler-Paulson notched 12 aces to lead the Orioles to a three set sweep of Albany 25-11, 25-17, 25-14.
"Our serving was big tonight," Argyle coach Shelby Rideout said. "She Butler-Paulson) was fantastic."
Butler-Paulson added a team-high 22 assists. After cruising to the win in the first set, the Orioles ran into a struggle in the second.
"In that first set we had great passing and serving," Rideout said. "We struggled with our serving in the second set and Albany is a scrappy team. The girls took a step back and were able to pull it out."
Argyle junior Jenna Langmeier had 10 kills and senior Rachel Saalsaa had 11 digs and senior Jessica Treuthardt added four blocks.
Rideout said the difference was the communication by the Orioles.
Albany junior Alexis Kennedy had 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior Felicia Conley notched 10 assists and senior Ashlee Berra added five blocks.
New Glarus 3, Cambridge 0
Every set was down to the wire and each time the Knights delivered, beating Cambridge in three sets by a total of seven points, 25-23, 26-24, 25-22.
Sierra Watrud had 15 digs and Maddie Macht had six aces to lead New Glarus (4-9 overall, 2-2 conference) who was behind in every set, including a 9-2 deficit at one point.
"Our intensity was just there," New Glarus coach Megan Maas said of the team's ability to come from behind. "We believed in ourselves and pulled out the win."
Breanne Kreklow led the Knights with 19 assists and Maddie Macht had a team high nine kills. Maas said her team's reduced hitting errors was the key to victory. She also believes her team has gained a lot of confidence from the close wins.
"Tonight was a good confidence builder," Maas said. "I think the girls will now walk into the gym knowing they can win."
Brodhead 3, Palmyra-Eagle 0
The Cardinals continued their dominant play as they swept Palmyra 25-10, 25-17, 25-11.
Rachel Heller had eight kills to lead Brodhead (10-1 overall, 2-1 Rock Valley South) and Payton Wright had six aces to lead all players. Wright also had a match-high13 assists.
Brooke Balk led the way for the Panthers with 13 digs and Niki Bealhen had five blocks, but it wasn't enough to slow down a Cardinals team with just a single blemish on its record.
