Panthers sweep Vikings

JUDA - Juda-Albany's Alexis Goecks went 4-for-6 and senior Tabatha Davis did the rest pitching to lead the Panthers to a doubleheader sweep of Pecatonica on Thursday.

Juda-Albany (13-3, 4-3 Six Rivers East) defeated Pecatonica 14-4 in five innings in the first game and 10-2 in the second game of the twinbill.

The Panthers broke the first game open with a nine-run fifth inning. The Vikings committed four of their six runs in the fifth. Juda-Albany's Jessica Crull delivered a two-run double and Davis had a two-run single.

"It's one of those domino effects where they have a couple of errors and we get a couple of hits," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. It was nice to see us take advantage of their mistakes."

Goecks and Katlyn Steinman each went 2-for-3. Crull finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Riley Adkins and Davis each had two RBI.

Davis pitched five innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. She struck out seven and walked two. Pecatonica's Sami Miller went 3-for-3 to lead the Vikings.

In the second game, Goecks went 2-for-3. Davis pitched six innings and gave up just two runs on two hits. She struck out five and walked two.

Juda-Albany still has a three conference games left including a big one next week against Monticello.

"Our conference is so tough," Bill Davis said. "If you can go out and beat one of the top teams in the conference, even if it's not for the conference championship, it's big."



Iowa-Grant 16, Darlington 3

LIVINGSTON - Iowa-Grant's Ashley Liddicoat and Hannah Stevens both hit home runs to lead the Panthers to a 16-3 win over Darlington.

Iowa-Grant pounded out 12 hits and exploded for six runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth.

Darlington's Taylor Cox, Megan Wiegel and Payton Ray were each 2-for-3.



Barneveld 11, Black Hawk 1

GRATIOT - Barneveld's Mattie Schave pitched the Eagles to an 11-1 win over Black Hawk.

Schave pitched five innings and gave up just one run on six hits. She struck out three and didn't issue a walk.

Black Hawk's Jen Wellnitz went 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors. Teammate Courtney Wilde had a double.

Black Hawk's Rachel Richard pitched five innings and had five strikeouts and walked three.
