ARGYLE - Argyle took three-time Six Rivers East Conference champion Juda-Albany to extra innings, and the Panthers came out swinging in the ninth.

Sophomore Katlyn Rhyner, junior Carlie Peters and sophomore Tabatha Davis all had run-scoring hits in the ninth as Juda-Albany posted an 8-3 victory.

The Panthers (4-2, 1-0 Six Rivers East) scored six runs in the ninth off Argyle sophomore Jessica Treuthardt.

"We started off kind of slow," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "Argyle came out hard. The girls faced some adversity. I think they answered it well."

Juda-Albany junior Jessica Rackow singled in the ninth, junior Kirstie Kauk bunted for a single and sophomore Morganne Goecks laid down a sacrifice bunt. Rhyner and Peters followed with RBI singles and Davis' added a three-run single.

The Orioles battled back in the seventh to force extra innings as junior Rachel Tollakson delivered a game-tying RBI bunt single to tie the game at 2.

Juda-Albany senior Amber Ramos pitched nine innings and gave up three runs on five hits. She struck out 17 and walked four.

Ramos went 2-for-4 whilte senior C.J. Dunwiddie and Rackow were each 2-for-5. Treuthardt pitched nine innings for the Orioles and gave up eight runs on nine hits. She struck out five and hit one.

Argyle senior Danielle Treuthardt was 2-for-3. Orioles senior Katie Dammen broke her leg.

"We wish her the best," Davis said of Dammen. "You never want to see that. That means more than this ballgame."

MONTICELLO 2, BARNEVELD 1

MONTICELLO - Monticello coach Duane Garrison said senior Karlie Klossner "probably threw the best game I've seen her throw in three years" in Tuesday's Six Rivers East Conference opener. That and a quick-strike offense in the opening innings kept the Ponies unbeaten at 5-0 overall.

Klossner pitched a complete-game three-hitter while recording five strikeouts and allowing two walks. She also had six fielding putouts, Garrison said.

"She was in total control, hit the corners and it was probably the best she's fielded in three years, too," Garrison said. "She really wanted this one. Being a senior, she wanted to keep the (winning) streak going."

The Ponies scored twice against Barneveld starter Tori Schave in the bottom of the first - the runs coming from the first two batters in the order.

Claire Gietzel was the only hitter from either team with multiple hits, and she laced her first up the middle to lead off for the Ponies. After a Jordan Garrison sacrifice, Marissa Berg ripped an RBI single to center for a 1-0 Ponies lead. Berg later scored on a throwing error.

Barneveld scored in the seventh on Rachel Slaney's one-out sacrifice fly, but Klossner recorded a strikeout and pop-up to end the game.

"I told the team when we first started that I thought we could be in this position - 5-0 going in against (Juda-Albany) on Thursday," Garrison said. "We can play with anybody as long as we don't make mental and physical mistakes."

PECATONICA 19, BLACK HAWK 16

SOUTH WAYNE - Michalla Boese went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs as the Vikings held on after leading by 10 runs in the fifth inning.

"Michalla always has been a strong hitter for us, and she's hitting the ball pretty well this year," Pecatonica coach Chuck Meyer said.

Michelle Francois went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, Brooke Johnson had two hits and two RBIs and Emily Scoville had two hits for Pecatonica (4-2, 1-0 Six Rivers East).

Cora Demler pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking one. The Vikings didn't help their pitchers by committing five errors.

"We did some things wrong, but we hit the ball better," Meyer said. "Just in some of those (defensive) situations, we've got to learn to give up one run and not three."

Jen Wellnitz, Kassy Paulson, Abby Schiferl and Kelly Neuenschwander each had two hits for Black Hawk, with Paulson and Schiferl recording two RBIs each.

Brodhead 7, Parkview 3

BRODHEAD - Amanda Pickel threw a three-hitter to lead the Cardinals to a key Rock Valley South Conference win over Parkview.

Pickel pitched seven innings and gave up three runs on three hits. She struck out seven and walked three.

Brodhead junior Taylor Douglas went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and junior Tabby Harnack was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
