JUDA - Coach Bill Davis had a long chat with his Juda-Albany softball team earlier this week after the Panthers felt the sting of their first Six Rivers East Conference loss.

"Good teams lose all the time," Davis said following a one-run loss to Monticello. "But it's how you answer back. Can you come back the next time, play hard and play a good game?"

The Panthers answered with an emphatic "yes" on Thursday, riding the one-hit pitching of Amber Ramos and a heavy-hitting lineup to a 9-0 victory against Pecatonica.

"It was a nice way to come back and hopefully set the tone" for the rest of the season, Davis said.

Juda-Albany (11-6, 7-1 Six Rivers East) remains one game ahead of Monticello and Argyle in the loss column in its bid for a fourth consecutive Six Rivers East title.

Ramos recorded 11 strikeouts and had three walks. Pecatonica's Michalla Boese ended the senior's no-hit bid with a sixth-inning single.

The Vikings' best scoring opportunity came in the second inning, when Ramos hit the first two Pecatonica batters. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up, but Ramos struck out the next two Pecatonica batters to thwart the threat.

Katlyn DeVoe went 3-for-3 while C.J. Dunwiddie, Carlie Peters, Katie Krupke and Ramos all had two hits for Juda-Albany. DeVoe, Dunwiddie and Ramos each had two RBIs.

The Panthers led 1-0 after four innings, then scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth to seize control.

"We started out a little bit slow - we had baserunners early and just a couple times ran ourselves out of an inning," Davis said. "But I thought we came back pretty nice."

Pecatonica's Cora Demler pitched five innings and allowed five runs and seven hits. Julia Meyer surrendered four runs on six hits over two innings.

Juda-Albany will host a six-team tournament on Saturday The action begins at 9 a.m.
