Panthers remain perfect

ARGYLE - The Juda-Albany softball team stayed unbeaten, defeating Six Rivers East Conference rival Argyle 8-1 Tuesday.

Juda-Albany sophomore Alexis Goecks went 2-for-3. Senior teammate Molly Marass had a clutch two-run double to center in the fourth inning to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead. Fellow senior Cheyenne Ambler delivered a two-run double to left in the fifth to give the Panthers a 7-1 lead.

Juda-Albany freshman pitcher Nick Becker pitched a complete game and gave up just one unearned run on six hits. She struck out six and didn't issue a walk. With the win, Juda-Albany improves to 8-0, 5-0 Six Rivers East.

"Juda-Albany is a wonderful team," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "They have great pitching, defense and are well coached. We need to hit the ball better. We are just not hitting well."

Argyle junior Katie Larson started on the mound. She gave up six earned runs on seven hits. Larson walked seven and struck out two. Two pitchers for the Orioles combined to walk nine. Argyle's Kaylie Berget pitched two innings and gave up just one run on two hits. With the loss, Argyle drops to 3-5, 1-3 Six Rivers East.

"We can't put runners on by walking them," Ganshert said. "It wouldn't have been 8-1 if we wouldn't have walked nine."

Argyle's Brianne Connors went 2-for-3.



Monticello 11, Black Hawk 3

MONTICELLO - Senior Courtney Leuzinger had a big game hitting going 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI to lead Monticello to an 11-3 win over Black Hawk Tuesday.

Monticello (6-2, 4-1 Six Rivers East) had a five-run first inning to jump out to an early lead. Monticello senior Samantha DeVoe went 2-for-4.

Monticello sophomore Jessie Garrison pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up one earned run on two hits. She struck out four and walked seven.

Black Hawk junior Rachel Ritschard pitched six innings and gave up seven earned runs. She struck out two and walked eight. The Warriors committed three errors.



Watertown Luther Prep 16, New Glarus 12

NEW GLARUS - In a windy slugfest, Watertown Luther Prep slugged its way to a 16-12 win over New Glarus.

New Glarus (2-10, 1-5 Capitol South) pounded out 24 hits. Six players in the Glarner Knights' lineup had three hits or more led by freshman Riley Parker, sophomore Grace Moen and sophomore Maya Kramer who each went 4-for-5. New Glarus junior Paige Bump and sophomore Lydia Sprecher each were 3-for-5.

Watertown Luther prep scored six runs in the first inning, but the Glarner Knights answered with a five-run first. The Knights scored three runs in the third to take a 10-7 lead. Watertown responded with a three-run fourth and three-run sixth.

Parker pitched a complete game for the Knights. She gave up 15 earned runs on 19 hits. She struck out two and walked eight.



Darlington 14, Southwestern 10

HAZEL GREEN - The Darlington softball team's bats came alive pounding out 12 hits en route to beating Southwestern 14-10 in a slugfest for the Redbirds' win of the season.

Darlington senior Mariah Wiegel went 3-for-3. The Redbirds rallied from a 3-0 deficit with a three-run third. The Redbirds responded scoring three more runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.

Darlington (1-4, 1-2 SWAL) led 11-5 entering the seventh where Southwestern scored five runs. The Wildcats were plagued by seven errors.

Darlington pitcher Kara Reichling pitched four innings to get the win. She gave up five earned runs on five hits. She struck out three and walked three.

McFarland 14, Brodhead 4

BRODHEAD - McFarland's Mia Hoveland went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Spartans to a 12-6 win over Brodhead in five innings Tuesday.

McFarland jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Brodhead senior Brooke Boegli pitched five innings and gave up 14 runs, but just four earned on 12 hits. The Cardinals committed five errors. Boegli struck out three and walked four.

Brodhead junior Amber Pickel went 3-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. Teammate Erin Kloepping scored two runs.
