According to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, hunting generates $1 billion in salaries and wages and supports over 34,000 Wisconsin jobs. Additionally, hunting is a major source of tax revenue for the state. Hunters pay $228 million in state and local taxes, not including the Pittman-Robertson Act, an 11 percent federal excise tax on firearms, ammunition and archery equipment that goes toward hunter safety training and wildlife and habitat conservation. Overall hunting in Wisconsin has a ripple effect of $4 billion annually.
