FORT ATKINSON - Monroe senior Jason Atkinson scored a game-winning header goal in double overtime to lift the Cheesemakers to a 2-1 win over Fort Atkinson on Tuesday.

"It was very exciting," Monroe coach Tony Stamm said. "Every conference game is important to us. We want to be towards the top of our conference."

Atkinson's goal came off an assist from Corey Flannery.

The Cheesemakers (5-3-3, 1-1-1 Badger South) took a 1-0 lead when senior Dalton Curtiss scored a goal on an assist from Nigel Tourdot at 53 minutes, 37 seconds. The Cheesemakers' defense was strong the entire game. The only goal the Blackhawks could generate came on a penalty kick after a hand ball was called in the Cheesemakers' box.

"There were many contributors to the win," Stamm said.

Monroe senior goalkeeper Kyle Williams had 19 saves.

"He was catching balls off guys' heads," Stamm said of Williams. "He did a fantastic job."

Stamm also credited junior center midfielder Jesse Keizer and Bob Seichter for their solid play.

"He (Keizer) just always plays with so much energy and sets up the other guys," Stamm said. "He is always winning the ball. Every time you see the ball, he is there."
