ARGYLE - Sophomore Kayla-Butler Paulson was on a mission to help Argyle beat Barneveld for the third time this year.

Paulson went 2-for-3 with a triple and had two RBI and pitched a complete game to lift the Orioles to an 8-6 win over Barneveld in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal Tuesday.

"I was really nervous about this one because they (Barneveld) are a good team," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "It's tough to beat a good team three times."

Argyle (11-11) had a five-run second inning to take the lead. Argyle's Brianne Connors, who went 2-for-3, singled to spark the big inning. Amber Dammen was hit by a pitch and Kari Fischer reached on an error when a fly ball to center was dropped that allowed Connors to score. Argyle junior Katie Larson reached on a fielder's choice and Dammen scored. The big blow in the second was Paulson's two-run triple that gave the Orioles a 4-0 lead.

The Eagles came back and scored four runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. The Orioles responded with Hannah Saalsaa coming through with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to give the Orioles a 7-6 lead.

"That was a huge hit by Hannah," Ganshert said.

Saalsaa finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Paulson pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up three earned runs on six hits. She struck out two and walked three.
