JUDA - Argyle senior Kayla Ostby came up big to power the Orioles to a four-set win over Juda Thursday night.

Ostby racked up 26 assists and had 10 aces to help lead the Orioles to a 17-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-15 win over the Panthers. Junior Treuthardt had a team-high 10 kills and Jenna Langmeier notched 23 digs.

"Kayla Ostby got hot serving and we had a hard time receiving that," Juda coach Tara Lund said. "I think we just needed a bit quicker reaction time."

Juda senior Miranda Trotter finished with seven kills and two aces to lead the Panthers. Senior Brianna Knudtson notched 24 digs and junior Tabatha Davis had 17 assists. With the loss, Juda drops to 4-9, 1-4 Six Rivers East.

Monticello 3, Black Hawk 0

MONTICELLO - The Ponies rolled to a sweep of the Warriors behind powerful hitters Jordyn Kubly and Marissa Berg.

Kubly, a senior, had a team-high 11 kills and four blocks and Berg had eight kills and four blocks to lead Monticello to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 win over the Warriors.

"Black Hawk was really scrappy," Monticello coach Scott Smice said. "Sometimes conventional volleyball for both teams is thrown out the window. You have to read and react, and I think we did a better job of that tonight."

Monticello junior Clare Bruns had 21 assists and four aces. Sophomore Alyssah Kubly had a team-high five aces.

Black Hawk junior Jen Wellnitz had 11 kills and three blocks to lead the Warriors. Senior Kelly Neuenschwander had five assists.

Monticello (10-3-1, 3-2) looks to keep pace with Pecatonica in the conference.

"We have to show up and play like it's the last one," Smice said. "This was a stepping stone."

Barneveld 3, Albany 0

ALBANY - Comets volleyball coach Connie Wunschel doesn't have to be convinced that Barneveld is the real deal.

The Golden Eagles dispatched the Comets 25-12, 25-15, 25-22. The Comets played without senior Cassidy Bump who missed the match with an illness.

"They are not unbeatable," Wunschel said of Barneveld. "They have a lot of weapons and have worked on their game. I thought we played really good defense tonight. I thought we played like a new team."

Barneveld's Samantha Evans had 15 kills and three blocks. Albany senior Kirstie Kauk had 10 digs and five kills.

Wisconsin Heights 3, New Glarus 1

MAZOMANIE - Wisconsin Heights has been a volleyball power for several years and a stumbling block for teams in the Capitol South.

Even though New Glarus lost in four games, 25-23, 25-10, 23-25, 25-22, the Glarner Knights showed the improvements they have made since the season began.

"We thought we could compete with them this year," New Glarus coach Casey Boatman said of the Vanguards. "Tonight, we proved that."

Karina Moen had 11 kills and two blocks to lead the Knights. Junior Sierra Watrud had 25 digs and senior Alaina Legler had 18 assists.
