Oregon upends Cheesemakers

MONROE - The Monroe girls tennis team, after being rained out in a match against Waunakee, lost a Badger South Conference match to Oregon 5-2 Tuesday.

The two wins for the Cheesemakers came from junior Eva Priewe at No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Amber Jenson and Maggie Setterstrom. Priewe defeated Oregon senior Cassandre Krier 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Jenson and Setterstrom defeated the Panthers' Kalli Choles and Madeline Bjerke 6-0, 6-2.

The Panthers won three of the four singles matches. Oregon junior Leah Koopman at No. 1 singles beat Monroe senior Chelsea Miller 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Oregon senior Kenzie Torpy slipped past junior Katie Demianiuk in a tiebreaker in the first set and won the second set 6-1. Oregon senior Clair Massey beat freshman Ashley Placek at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-0.

The Panthers' sophomore No. 1 doubles duo of Katie Pliner and Renee Lewandowski defeated Monroe seniors Erin Gellings and Paige Prien in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 3 doubles, Oregon's Jules Gerhard and Arianna Nasserjah beat Maija Liimatainen and Hannah Zweifel 6-4, 6-0.
