OREGON - The much-anticipated season opener for the Monroe boys hockey team as a WIAA program was a tough one, as the Avalanche lost 12-0 to Oregon Tuesday night.
The Panthers scored nine first-period goals and dominated the game from that point onward. Orgeon added two second period goals to put the game away.
"They worked as hard as they could have," Monroe coach Nathan Brown said. "We had a rough first period. We had a couple of new skaters out there and some guys out of position. They played with more heart than I could have asked for."
Brown said there were moments the team had a couple of shots on goal.
"The rebounds didn't go in tonight," he said. "They will start to fall. Our team needs to keep working on passing and making smart decisions in front of the net."
