MONROE - Oregon swept all four singles matches and pulled out a trio of three-set wins to knock off the Monroe girls tennis team 6-1 on Tuesday.

The lone win for the Cheesemakers came from senior Hallie Signer and sophomore Jensen Christensen at No. 1 doubles. Signer and Christensen defeated Oregon junior Sophia Choles and junior Ashley Johnson 6-2, 7-5.

"We had a lot of close matches, and for a while it looked like it could be either team's match," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "We have had a lot of luck in tiebreaks and three-set matches this season, but tonight it just wasn't our night in close matches. That's the way it goes sometimes. The girls played hard and left it all out on the court, but credit goes to Oregon for winning a lot of close sets."

There were several nail-biting matches. Oregon senior Jules Gerhard at No. 1 singles defeated Monroe senior Maggie Setterstrom in three sets, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Oregon sophomore Anna Donovan beat Monroe sophomore Emma Towne 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Oregon junior Rachell Depudyt at No. 4 singles defeated Monroe senior Skye Allen 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Saugstad said he liked the way the doubles teams and singles players competed.

The Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles duo of Signer and Christensen moved their record to 11-2 with the win.

"These two (Signer and Christensen) have been on a roll," Saugstad said. "Our singles players were all playing their style and trying to do exactly what we practice. Oregon just won too many of the key points. Maggie, Grace, Emma and Skye really played hard tonight, and I'm happy with their effort."

Monroe will play at Monona Grove on Thursday.
