OREGON - The Monroe wrestling team lost a nail-biter to Oregon 39-36 in a Badger South Conference dual Tuesday night.

"There were a lot of tough matches," Monroe coach Jeiramy Jackson said. "Our older guys did what they are supposed to do. Some of our younger guys have a little bit to learn yet."

Monroe sophomore Ryan Hughes at 160 pounds pinned Oregon's Jack Hagstrom in 1 minute, 50 seconds. Monroe junior Dusty Burkhalter (182) edged Matt Sampson 6-4. In a another match down to the wire, junior Trevor Gorr (220) defeated Max Sampson 2-1. At heavyweight, Monroe's Brett Zimmerman pinned John Best in 3:18.

Terri Holmes (113) pinned Noah Engelhart in 49 seconds. Juniors Aaron Hesgard and Kevin Klopfenstein (138) also picked up pins for the Cheesemakers. Hesgard pinned Kurt Stetzer in 5:52 and Klopfenstein pinned William Frauchiger in 4:17.

The dual meet loss for the Cheesemakers comes on the heels of a fourth place finish at the Reedburg Invite.
