LANCASTER - In a loaded WIAA Division 3 Lancaster regional Saturday, Black Hawk sophomore Colin Novak was the only area wrestler to qualify for the sectional.

Novak (32-8) at 113 pounds pinned Lancaster's Dustin Reynolds in 5 minutes, 48 seconds in the semifinals. Mineral Point's Reid Suddeth then pinned him in 4:11. Novak finished second place by virtue of a win against Reynolds.

Lancaster won the regional team title 276.5-217.5 over Mineral Point. Black Hawk finished fifth (98), Darlington was sixth (59) and Pecatonica-Argyle finished last (52) in the seven-team tournament.

Black Hawk's Joe Quinn (106), Jared Pickett (120), Beau Holland (132) and Dakota Meier (145) each took third place and just missed finishing in the top two to qualify for the individual sectional tournament on Saturday.

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Lucas McKeon (182) and senior Nick Gilbertson (heavyweight) each took third place. McKeon (26-15) lost a second place match to Iowa-Grant-Highland's Kyle Soderstrom 8-0. Gilbertson (27-4) lost to Mineral Point's Brian Steffes 3-2 in the quarterfinals and then he defeated Darlington's Zach Wolf 4-1. Gilbertson couldn't wrestle for second due to an earlier loss to Steffes.

Darlington's Alex Schulte also just missed qualifying for the sectional, finishing third. Schulte (24-10) pinned Pecatonica-Argyle's Bjeorn Bekklund in 1:19. Fennimore's Dalton Miles then pinned him in 2:12. He edged Mineral Point's Nate Cody 7-6 and lost a second-place match by rule due to an earlier loss to Miles.

There were three Redbird wrestlers who finished fourth, including Brandon Aardahl (120), Patrick Roche (132) and Wolf.
