SOUTH WAYNE - After the Warriors' 34-16 homecoming loss to Potosi Saturday, Black Hawk football coach Cory Milz isn't looking too far ahead to the playoffs.

Black Hawk (5-3, 4-3 Six Rivers) will play at River Ridge Friday. The Warriors need a win against River Ridge to lock up a playoff berth. The Warriors are playoff eligible by clinching at least a .500 record in the Six Rivers Conference, but they can make the playoffs a certainty with one more conference win.

"This will be a big game for us for our psyche," Milz said. "It's a must-win game. We are not in the playoffs automatically without this win."

Potosi senior running back Teagan Friederick rushed for 127 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns Saturday to power the Chieftains, ranked No. 9 in the WisSports.net Division 7 Coaches poll, to the win.

"They were just bigger and more physical," Milz said. "We helped them whether it was a penalty, dropped ball or bad alignment. We are not a good enough team to beat ourselves and our opponent."

Black Hawk sophomore quarterback Michael Flanagan missed the game due to mononucleosis. Sophomore Brody Milz started at quarterback and rushed for 60 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns. The Warriors also suffered a blow with Joe Quinn sustaining an injury.

Potosi opened the game with a 13-play, 80-yard drive, culminating in Nathan Friederick's 9-yard TD run. The Chieftains wasted no time on their second possession with Teagan Friederick bolting in for a 30-yard TD run to extend their lead to 14-0.

The Warriors answered with a five-play, 55-yard drive, capped off by Milz's 2-yard TD run. Black Hawk senior Jacob Quinn ran in the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 14-8.

Quinn rushed for 66 yards on 16 carries. He had two receptions for 31 yards.

Potosi senior Tommy Pluemer capped a five-play, 80-yard drive with a 5-yard scoring run on a counter crisscross to give the Chieftains a 21-8 lead at the half.

Teagan Friederick raced for a 31-yard TD run late in the third quarter to give the Chieftains a 28-8 lead. Pluemer had a 96-yard interception return for a TD early in the fourth quarter to give the Chieftains a commanding 34-8 lead.

The Warriors closed the fourth quarter strong with a 14-play, 76-yard drive ending in a 1-yard TD run by Milz.

Cory Milz said Quinn and Chase Stietz have been battling ankle injuries.

"Our offense is predicated on the speed of the dive," Milz said. "If that is hitting slowly our offense looks bad."

Black Hawk senior Alex Wheeler gave the Warriors a boost in the fourth quarter by rushing for 35 yards on three carries.

"He (Wheeler) came in fresh and didn't flinch," Milz said.
