DEFOREST - Kayla Goth, a Kansas State recruit, scored a game-high 16 points and No. 2 ranked DeForest rolled to a 59-16 win over Monroe Tuesday.
DeForest (11-0), ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press Division 2 state poll, raced out to a 27-1 lead on the Cheesemakers in the first quarter. The Norskies, a state qualifier last year, used a fullcourt press to create turnovers. With the loss, Monroe (5-7, 1-3 Badger South) had its three-game winning streak snapped.
"They (DeForest) did an excellent job of transitioning and finding the open passes for conversions on the fastbreak," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "Even when you do pass the ball well, they are not going to give you anything easy in the halfcourt."
DeForest's Cassidy Byrd added 11 points. Monroe freshman Sydney Mathiason scored a team-high nine points.
Monroe will host Oregon at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
"We talked about what we can take and learn from this so when we play Oregon on Friday we are a better team," Mathiason said. "Whether you win or lose, you have to find some things to learn from it."
