WISCONSIN DELLS - New Glarus junior sharpshooter Zach Feller drilled seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Glarner Knights to a shootout 91-81 win over Mauston at JustAGame Fieldhouse Saturday.
New Glarus raced out to a 53-39 lead in the first half. The Knights made 10 three-pointers as a team. Feller hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points in the first half to spark his team.
"Zach got hot in the first half," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "Zach got some good looks and he was knocking them down. The guys did a good job of looking for him because his shot was going in."
New Glarus junior Jaden Kreklow added 22 points and senior Cullen Brooks scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half. The one area where New Glarus did struggle was the free-throw line where they made only 9 of 21. Brooks made 5 of 7 free throws. Junior teammate Trevor Gassman chipped in 11 points.
"Cullen got it going inside in the second half," Sysko said. "Jaden has a great ability to get to the basket and got into the paint and had some good finishes."
Despite the win, Sysko saw areas where the Knights needed to improve.
"There is something we can take from every game to work on," Sysko said. "Free throws is one area we need to work on. Giving up 81 points isn't ideal either. There are some areas we need to lean up defensively."
