NEW GLARUS - The Knights hosted Marshall in a Capitol South doubleheader Saturday, sweeping the Cardinals.
In the first game, New Glarus needed eight innings to come away with the 5-4 victory. Trailing 4-0 in the third, the Knights plated three runs in the bottom half of the frame and added another run in the fourth.
Nick Stuessy took the win on the hill, going all eight innings, allowing just one earned run on eight hits and a walk while striking out five.
Ryan Bright was 2-for-3 and Brandon Pittman scored two runs. As a team, the Knights struckout 11 times against Marshall's Brad Rassmussen, who gave up five hits and 10 walks.
In the second game, New Glarus edged the Cardinals, 10-9.
The Knights scored two runs in the first and three in the top half of the third to take a 5-1 lead. Marshall plated seven runs in the bottom of the third to make it 8-5, but New Glarus tied it up in the top of the fourth. The Knights scored a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings to close out the game.
Brandon Gerber started the second game, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five in 2 1/3 innings. Evan Hauge finished the game on the hill, picking up the win.
New Glarus had 15 hits in the night cap. Carlin Moen and Brendan Pittman each went 3-for-4 at the plate. Bright and Stuessy were each 2-for-3 and Lane Sunde was 2-for-4. Stuessy added three RBIs and Kirbe French had two. The Knights had four doubles in the contest.
Edgerton 13, Monticello 1
EDGERTON - The Crimson Tide scored six in the fifth inning against the Ponies to end the game early.
Monticello scored its only run in the first inning, but a five-run second by Edgerton put the Ponies in a hole. The Tiders scored two more runs in the third.
The Ponies mustered up just two hits in the contest and committed six defensive errors. Edgerton had nine hits and no errors.
