NEW GLARUS - In hosting conference foe Wisconsin Heights on Thursday, the New Glarus girls basketball team was able to supply a steady and stout defensive pressure, limiting the Vanguards offensively en route to a 53-30 Knights win.

"We played a great defensive game tonight," said New Glarus coach Megan Scheele. "We came out intense and we were able to get after it and hold them to only six points in the first half."

Not only did the Knights defensive pressure prove to be problematic for the Vanguards, but it also created opportunities for New Glarus on the offensive side of the ball.

"When we get into our 1-3-1 defense, the girls know that they have to work hard to apply the pressure, but it boosts their confidence by creating some things for them on the other end," said Scheele. "And when we get our confidence going, we become a very successful team."

Each of the eight lady Knights scored at least once in the game, led by Vanessa Narveson and Courtney Feller with 13 points apiece.

Cuba City 81, Darlington 17

CUBA CITY - The Darlington girls basketball team traveled to Cuba City on Thursday night, in what ended up being a lopsided 81-17 loss for the Redbirds, who committed 18 personal fouls throughout the game.

The one-loss Cubans were able take control of the game early on, as they raced out to a 46-10 advantage by halftime. The Redbirds had a tough time in controlling Cuba City's offense, as three players scored in double figures for the Cubans, with others contributing solid performances as well.

Darlington (1-10, 0-6) will take on Argyle at the Just-A-Game fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells on Saturday, Jan. 25.
