ORFORDVILLE - Jeremy Langfoss led the charge as the New Glarus Glarner Knights stormed to the WIAA Division 3 Evansville Regional semifinals with a 60-49 victory over Parkview Tuesday night.
The 6-4 forward ran the floor with grace as the New Glarus defense created turnovers and transition opportunities galore during an 18-6 third quarter that had the Vikings feeling awfully far from home despite enjoying the 4-5 seed advantage.
"There aren't a whole lot of big guys that can keep up with Jeremy and we hit him in stride a few times," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said.
Langfoss had eight points in the quarter and led six New Glarus scorers who each dropped in at least seven points. Junior Jake Bast had 10 and played inspired defense on the talented point guard Nick Melton. While Melton was held to just eight points against the suffocating man-to-man defense, Alex Mumm went to work inside to lead all scorers with 23 points.
New Glarus draws the daunting task of traveling to Cuba City for Thursday's semifinals, but Sysko likes the matchup against the Cubans.
"We're pretty athletic too and it's going to be two teams getting up and down the floor in a hurry," Sysko said.
