New Glarus, Darlington lose big time; Brodhead gets win

NEW GLARUS - The Columbus Cardinals scored 19 of their 20 runs in the first three innings to cruise past the New Glarus Glarner Knights in a Capitol Conference crossover game Tuesday, 20-1.

The Knights got just two hits off Melissa Gauger and Kayla Witthun of Columbus and scored their only run of the game in the second inning.

Freshman Emma Jackson gave up just four earned runs for New Glarus, but seven errors led to 10 unearned runs for the Cardinals.

New Glarus (0-9, 0-6) will host Waterloo Thursday.

Iowa-Grant 15, Darlington 2

LIVINGSTON - The Iowa-Grant Panthers used an eight-run second inning, plus six Darlington errors to beat the Redbirds in a SWAL game Tuesday.

Junior Laura Steiner struck out seven batters over four innings for the Redbirds, but miscues allowed the Panthers to score 10 unearned runs. Darlington got just two hits, but got on the scoreboard with single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Darlington (0-8, 0-11) will host Cuba City Thursday.

BELOIT - The Cardinals posted their eighth shutout of the season and their sixth straight win by blanking the Trojans, 4-0 in a Rock Valley South game Tuesday.

Brodhead (11-1, 8-0 Rock Valley South) will compete in the Poynette Jamboree Saturday.
