New Glarus, Argyle and Darlington all lose

MAZOMANIE - The Wisconsin Heights Vanguards, ranked No. 3 in the latest Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association poll, swept New Glarus 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 in a Capital South Conference volleyball match Tuesday.

The Glarner Knights were led by senior Alexa Secord with five kills, and senior Mara Gartzke with three blocks. Senior Lauren Narveson contributed four assists and junior Heather Hustad added two aces for the Glarner Knights.

News Glarus (0-2) will host Marshall Thursday.

Barneveld 3, Argyle 1

BARNEVELD - The Orioles fell to 1-1 in the Six Rivers East after losing in four games Tuesday to the Eagles, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23.

Junior Danielle Treuthardt paced Argyle with four aces and three blocks. Junior Abby Flanagan delivered eight kills, while sophomore Kayla Ostby distributed 26 assists and junior Micala Peterson notched 17 digs for the Orioles.

Argyle head coach Shane Johnson said it was frustrating to lose three close games.

"We got out-scrapped. They out-performed us. We found some areas that we need to get better in. We'll work hard to improve and play them again," she said.

Argyle will participate in the Brodhead Tournament Saturday.

Iowa-Grant 3, Darlington 0

LIVINGSTON - The Iowa-Grant Panthers, ranked seventh in the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association rankings this week, rolled past the Redbirds, 25-12, 25-8, 25-11 in a SWAL conference match Tuesday.

Junior Elizabeth Mathias had three kills and junior Chayse Hermanson added 10 digs to lead the Redbirds.

Darlington will host the Fennimore Golden Eagles Thursday.
