NEW GLARUS - Vanessa Narveson had the magic shooting touch over the final 5 minutes of a nonconference game Friday against Poynette.
With the New Glarus High School girls basketball team leading by just four points, Narveson scored 22 of her game-high 30 points in the second half. Her outburst turned a tight game into a blowout and the Knights cruised to a 74-55 win.
Narveson made three 3-pointers.
"The score was not indicative of the game," New Glarus coach Kim Burton said. "We would be up two points and then five points. She (Narveson) caught fire late in the game. Everything she shot went in."
New Glarus (4-1) outscored the Pumas 45-31 in the second half.
New Glarus junior McKinley Righter scored 12 points, and sophomore Willow Lee chipped in 10 points.
"They showed a lot of grit in this game," Burton said.
"I thought our seniors really stepped up. They were diving on the floor for loose balls. They showed the other girls that they could believe we could win this game."
It also helped that the Knights shot 81.8 percent from the free-throw line (18 of 22).
