JANESVILLE - Seniors Cole Murray and Kyle Walter both went unbeaten at the Janesville Parker Duals Saturday, and the Cheesemakers wrestling team placed third.

Murray at 138 and Walter at heavyweight each went 5-0 on Saturday. Murray wrestled three of his five matches up a weight class at 145 so the Cheesemakers could avoid giving up points on forfeits. Walter, a state qualifier last year, started out the season with a bang.

"They both wrestled well," Monroe coach Tom Witt said. "It's good for them as seniors. We had a really good day."

Monroe (3-3) defeated Edgerton 42-30, beat Racine Horlick 44-24 and then lost to Random Lake 43-24. Kenosha Bradford topped the Cheesemakers 49-25.

"Random Lake is usually one of the top-ranked teams in Division 3," Witt said. "I thought we may have a chance against them. I held Isaac (Allen) out against them because he's still coming back from the calf injury."

The Cheesemakers had a trio of wrestlers finish 4-1: freshman Alex Witt (132), junior Sam Kind (160) and senior Hayden Arneson (195).

Alex Witt wrestled three of his five matches up a weight class at 138.

Two years ago, Kind was wrestling at 120. Now, he is adapting to wrestling at a higher weight.

"He's still adjusting to the size and physicalness of the bigger kids," Tom Witt said of Kind.

Arneson, a state qualifier last year at 195, lost his only match in overtime to a Random Lake wrestler. Instead of being 10 pounds or more under weight, Arneson is right at 195 this season. Witt is noticing a difference.

"He's more physical," Witt said of Arneson. "Matchups like that (against Random Lake) will help him down the road."

Allen (182) went 3-1. David Andrews (126) and junior Dempzy Foley (170) each finished the day 3-2.
