MONROE - The Mount Vernon team swept titles in each of the men's classes at the national Tug-of-War Championships at the Green County Fair on Saturday.

Mount Vernon won championships in the men's 640-kilo, men's catchweight, men's 580 and men's 700. The Mount Vernon Black team also won a title in the coed division.

DJ's of Lakeville, Minn, swept women's titles in the 500, 540 and ctachweight. Power Train of Greeley, Iowa finished first in the under 23 and novice divisions.

"The weather was tremendous," said Amy Breuscher, who served as a scorekeeper. "It was nice to have it at the Green County Fair. They were really accommodating."

Mount Vernon member Tim Feller said the goal was to win every class the team entered.

Mount Vernon last year won three of four titles in the national championship in Madison.

The national Tug-of-War Championships were sponsored by Colony Brands.
