Monticello uses home court to top Pec

MONTICELLO - A quirk in the schedule allowed Monticello to take advantage of its home court against Pecatonica.

The Ponies' match against Pecatonica was moved from Blanchardville to Monticello.

"Their court was unplayable," Monticello coach Scott Smice said. "I don't know if it buckled in the heat or what."

Monticello took advantage sweeping Pecatonica in three sets 25-11, 25-11, 25-16. With the win, Monticello improved to 3-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East.

"The girls were really fired up," Smice said of the team's first home match. "We came out of the blocks well, firing on all cylinders."

Monticello senior Claire Geitzel had 15 digs and seven aces. Junior teammate Alyssah Kubly delivered five kills and a team-high eight aces. Monticello junior Paige Dilley had a team-high nine kills and senior Marissa Berg added seven. Fellow senior Clare Bruns racked up 24 assists.

Pecatonica's Erin Kleppe had two kills and senior Julia Meyer added four blocks. Clara Moen had four assists and Sam Miller added three aces.

"Our serving was tremendous," Smice said.



Juda 3, Albany 0

JUDA - The Panthers continued to be the surprise team in the Six Rivers East sweeping Albany in three sets 25-10, 25-19, 25-7.

Juda senior Tabatha Davis and junior Molly Marass each had 10 digs to lead the Panthers.

"They dug in tonight," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "We kept a lot of balls in play. We had a lot of digs and that is who we are. They never quit. Tabatha Davis and Jessica Jordan's efforts lead the team."

Juda (3-2, 2-1 Six Rivers East) got four kills from Cheyenne Ambler and three aces from Chelsea Burkhalter.

Albany senior Ashlee Berra delivered a team-high 11 digs and three blocks to lead the Comets. Albany junior Alexis Kennedy had six kills and senior Felicia Conley had six assists. Felicia Caldwell added 11 digs and Liz Schroeder had three blocks.

Juda will play at Monticello on Thursday.

"We know they are one of the top teams in the conference," Anderson said. "We are looking forward to the competition. We will try to keep the ball in play and go from there."



Argyle 3, Black Hawk 0

SOUTH WAYNE - Argyle junior Jenna Langmeier had a big match for the Orioles.

Langmeier came through with a team-high 11 kills and 12 digs to lead Argyle to a 25-23, 25-18, 26-24 win over the Warriors. Argyle (3-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East) was able to pull out close first and third sets.

"Our play at the net was very aggressive," Argyle coach Shelby Rideout said. "The girls did a great job hitting. Our middles were huge for us."

Argyle seniors Jessica Treuthardt and Cassidy Steiner each had three blocks. It's Steiner's first year in the middle.

"I pushed her into the role of the middle," Rideout said. "She did a great job at the net."

Argyle senior Rachel Saalsaa had 11 digs and three aces. Argyle freshman Kayla Butler-Paulson racked up 22 assists and junior Kylie Johnsen had 11 digs.

Black Hawk was led by Aleigha Sigafus who had six kills. Argyle junior Alexis Warrell had 14 assists and two aces.



Waterloo 3, New Glarus 0

NEW GLARUS - Waterloo handed the Glarner Knights their first conference loss 25-18, 25-11, 26-24.

New Glarus junior Breanne Kreklow had 19 assists and Trisha Wiese had four blocks.

New Glarus senior Jaimie Statz and senior Karina Moen each had five kills. Sophomore teammate Maddie Macht finished with a team-high 15 digs and senior Sierra Watrud had 14.

With the loss, New Glarus drops to 2-6, 1-1 Capitol South.
