CAMBRIDGE - Monticello senior Alyssah Kubly caught a lob pass and scored down low with 2.4 seconds to go to give the Ponies a thrilling 52-51 overtime win over Clinton in the Cambridge Holiday Tournament Monday.

"The play was executed very well and Alyssah got to the rim," Monticello coach Lori Brokopp said. "It was the second time we ran it. We just ran it to the opposite side of the floor. I think they were caught off-guard a little by it. We needed to be in a close game like this and feel the pressure. In other close games, we will have this to bank on."

With the win, Monticello improves to 5-3, 2-1 Six Rivers East. The Ponies will play Cambridge at 4 p.m. today for the championship.

Clinton's Hannah Kalk rattled in a 3-pointer at the buzzer at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. Kalk scored 16 points and made four 3-pointers.

Monticello seniors Courtney Leuzinger and Samantha DeVoe each added eight points. With the loss, Clinton drops to 7-2.

Monticello made 12 of 20 free throws compared to 10 of 20 for Clinton.

"We made some key free throws," Brokopp said. "I thought we definitely stepped up our defense in the fourth quarter."
