MONTICELLO - The Monticello softball team received two strongly pitched games and won two games in its tournament Saturday, April 20.

Monticello (6-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East) edged Darlington 3-2 and defeated New Glarus 10-0 in five innings.

Monticello's Claire Bruns went 2-for-3. She pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on four hits. She struck out seven and walked two.

"I give Darlington credit," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "They are a much improved team. They played good defense and hit the ball hard. We didn't hit the ball very good. You can't hit the ball hard every game. To come out of it with a win is always good."

Darlington's Cassidy Cox went 1-for-2. Darlington junior Jena Foulker pitched six innings for the Redbirds and gave up three runs on six hits. She struck out five and walked four.

Monticello had four-run third and fourth innings en route to a shut out of New Glarus. Jordan Garrison was the starting pitcher for the first time in two years. She tossed a two-hit shutout. She struck out three and walked two.

Monticello's Broeckin Klosterman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Jordan Garrison went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Sam DeVoe was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.

The Ponies are playing without sophomore Courtney Leuzinger who suffered a high sprained ankle earlier this season. Garrison said he's not sure if Leuzinger will return to play this season.

"It's a big blow for us," Garrison said. "She was walking around on it on Saturday. That's a good sign. It's hard to replace that stick in the order."

Darlington defeated New Glarus 10-0 in the other game.

Argyle 4, Belmont 3

ARGYLE - Jessica Geissbuhler went 2-for-4 to lead the Orioles to a 4-3 nine-inning win over Belmont Saturday, April 20.

Argyle junior Jessica Treuthardt pitched nine innings and gave up two earned runs on eight. She struck out six and walked two.
