Monticello roars past Juda

MONTICELLO - The Monticello girls basketball team stormed back from a nine-point deficit to beat Juda 38-36 on Tuesday and move into a third-place tie with the Panthers in the Six Rivers East.

Juda had a 30-21 lead to start the fourth quarter, but the Ponies (9-7, 5-3) closed the game on a 17-6 run.

Freshman Alyssah Kubly scored 17 points and sophomore Marissa Berg added nine for Monticello.

Senior Ellen Kiser scored 24 points for Juda (12-5, 5-3 Six Rivers East), which made just 8 of 16 free throws.

Cambridge 54, New Glarus 45

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights' aspirations of winning the Capitol South Conference took a hit.

New Glarus junior Anya Schween scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Knights.

"If you are angry about this than take it out on them in one week," Knights coach Megan Scheele told her team.

Marshall has a one-game lead on New Glarus (8-7, 4-2), Cambridge and Wisconsin Heights after the Vanguards beat the Cardinals 69-28. The Knights, who still control their own destiny, play at Cambridge on Feb. 14 and host Marshall on Feb. 17.

Whitewater 54, Brodhead 40

WHITEWATER - The best of the Rock Valley North got the best of the Rock Valley South.

The Whippets, ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press Division 2 poll, held a 19-16 halftime lead but got some extra cushion with a 15-7 advantage in the third quarter.

The Cardinals, ranked No. 9 in Division 3, lost for only the third time this season. The Cardinals' only other losses have come to Division 4 10th-ranked Cuba City and Division 3 fifth-ranked East Troy.

Brodhead got 17 points from junior Taylor Douglas and 11 points from sophomore Carly Mohns. The Cardinals fell to 9-2 in the Rock Valley South, but still hold a two-and-a-half game lead over Clinton for first place.
