MONTICELLO - The Monticello softball team has hit seven home runs in its three-game winning streak as the Ponies defeated Pecatonica 9-2 Monday to keep the streak going.
Monroe senior Samantha DeVoe went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Senior teammate Brooke Bidlingmaier went 1-for-1 with a home run, 2 RBI and two walks and senior Jordan Garrison was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
"We have really been on a home run terror," said Monticello coach Duane Garrison, whose team improved to 9-4, 6-3 Six Rivers East. "We are hitting the ball hard, finding the gaps and it's going."
DeVoe hit a solo home run in the first inning to help the Ponies jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Pecatonica's Molly Hendrickson, who went 2-for-3, had an RBI single in the third to cut the Ponies' lead to 2-1. The Ponies responded with a three-run fourth highlighted by Bidlingmaier's two-run home run.
Monticello senior Courtney Leuzinger pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up two runs on four hits. She struck out nine and walked two.
"Courtney was on early on hitting her spots," Garrison said. "If we can get her some runs early, it seems like it helps her."
Pecatonica senior Emily Scoville pitched six innings and gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out five and walked four.
Juda-Albany 10, Black Hawk 0
SOUTH WAYNE - Juda-Albany sophomore Sara Jordan and freshman Nicki Becker combined on a one-hitter to lead the Panthers to a 10-0 win over Black Hawk Monday.
Becker pitched five no-hit innings and struck out eight. The Panthers had Jordan pitch two innings and she gave up just one hit. Becker had a perfect game going before Jordan came in to pitch in relief.
"We wanted to take some innings off of Nicki's arm," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "We have been riding her pretty hard."
With the win, Juda-Albany improves to 12-1, 9-0 Six Rivers East. The only loss for the sixth-ranked Panthers was a 4-2 loss to third-ranked Thorp in the Portage Jamboree in a game that was called due to darkness after five innings.
Juda-Albany senior Molly Marass went 2-for-3 with a double and senior Katlyn Steinmann was 2-for-4. The Panthers had four extra-base hits. Senior Cheyenne Ambler, junior Danielle Dieckoff and junior Jessica Crull each hit doubles.
Black Hawk sophomore Morgan Stauffacher had the only hit for the Warriors.
Argyle 9, Barneveld 8
BARNEVELD - Argyle's Brianne Connors singled in the ninth inning and advanced to third base on an error. She scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to give Argyle a thrilling 9-8 win over Barneveld in nine innings Monday.
Argyle pounded out 12 hits, but took advantage of six errors by the Eagles.
Argyle senior Jenna Langmeier went 4-for-5 and sophomore Kayla Butler-Paulson was 3-for-5 to lead the Orioles.
Paulson earned the win pitching a complete game over nine innings. She gave up six earned runs on 15 hits. She struck out four and didn't issue a walk.
