JUDA - Missed serves doomed the Juda High School volleyball team Tuesday.

Monticello upended the Panthers in five sets in the Six Rivers Conference opener for both teams.

Monticello (1-1, 1-0 Six Rivers East) edged Juda 25-21, 25-14, 18-25, 17-25, 15-11. Juda had 19 service errors in the match. Juda drops to 2-3 overall, while Monticello levels its record at 1-1.

"We have to serve better," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "We missed way too many serves tonight. The Six Rivers East Conference is really competitive this year. On any given night if you are a little off like having 19 missed serves it typically won't end well for that team."

Monticello senior Brie Graber had a team-high 10 kills, and senior Chandler Hansen racked up 20 digs. Senior Jessie Garrison posted 25 assists. The Ponies had eight aces and 11 blocks as a team.

"Monticello did a great job of covering the floor and digging," Anderson said. "They had a really super night digging."

After dropping the first two sets, the Panthers rallied to win the second and third sets.

"I made a rotation change, and we did a better job of placing our hitters in a place where they could attack," Anderson said.

Juda senior Sara Jordan had a team-best 12 kills. Senior Alexis Goecks had 32 digs. Senior Chelsea Burkhalter had 17 assists, and junior Hailey Kammerer added two blocks.

Pecatonica 3, Black Hawk 2

BLANCHARDVILLE - After dropping the first set to Black Hawk, Pecatonica volleyball coach Jennah Schliem wanted to see her team flip a switch.

The Vikings did and rallied to edge the Warriors in five sets 18-25, 25-21, 27-25, 18-25, 15-12.

"It was huge, especially since we didn't play well against Black Hawk in the tournament last weekend," Schliem said, referring to Saturday's tournament in Monticello during which Pecatonia lost two of three sets to Black Hawk. "Coming back after the first set we brought it."

Senior Liz Tisch had 12 kills to propel the Vikings. Junior Taetum Pagel dished out 17 assists, and senior Lexi Phillips had 17 digs. Junior Grace Keast posted three blocks.

Senior Sam Lovelace had 14 kills and three aces to lead the Warriors. Junior Hannah Herbst had 20 assists. Senior Jordyn Delzer had three blocks, and junior Teearia Sweeney added three aces.

Barneveld 3, Albany 0

ALBANY - Teegan Pickarts had 14 kills and 10 assists to propel the Golden Eagles to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-11 sweep of Albany in the conference opener.

Albany's Libby Beck posted seven kills, and Sydney Bloedel dished out six assists. Junior Hailey Stefanik had nine digs, and senior Sayde McDermott had two blocks.
