MAZOMANIE - The late game heroics by several Monticello boys basketball players were wiped out as Wisconsin Heights clipped the Ponies 52-49 in overtime in a non-conference thriller Tuesday night.
Monticello (1-1) trailed 42-37 with 2 minutes left. Monticello junior Lukas Kolasch scored with 1:06 left to cut the Vanguards' lead to 42-39. Monticello senior Tyler Ritschard, who scored 19 points, scored again to cut the Vanguards' lead to one point with 36 seconds to go. Fellow senior Corey McGowan hit a free throw with 23 seconds left that tied the game at 42 and sent it to overtime. The Vanguards scored all 10 of their points in the extra session from the free throw line to hand the Ponies their first loss of the season.
Kolasch scored 14 points and McGowan added 10.
Ritschard hit a halfcourt shot at the buzzer that turned a six-point deficit into a three-point loss. Monticello will have 10 days to get ready for their next game at New Glarus Saturday, Dec. 11.
Brodhead 62, Beloit Turner 49
BRODHEAD - The Cardinals erased their memories of Saturday's loss to Monroe and rolled over the Trojans.
Senior UW-Milwaukee recruit J.J. Panoske, a 6-feet, 10-inch center, scored 35 points to lead the way. Panoske hit 15 shots from the field and was 5 of 6 from the free throw line and scored 19 points in the second half alone.
Senior Carson Scheidegger had 13 points for Brodhead, including three 3-pointers.
Beloit Turner opened the game by outscoring the Cardinals 21-17 in the first quarter. By halftime, Brodhead had pulled ahead 31-30. A big 19-8 run in the third quarter put the Cardinals up 50-38. Panoske had 11 points in the third.
Brodhead gets back at it Friday on the road at Big Foot.
Madison Abundant Life 39, Albany 33
MADISON - The Comets couldn't overcome a slow shooting night and fell victim to the Challeng-ers.
Albany led 15-9 after the first quarter and 18-14 at halftime. But Abundant Life shut out the Comets in the third quarter, 9-0, and held off a 15-point Albany barrage in the fourth to close out the game.
Josh Krueger led Albany with just six points.
East Dubuque 48, Argyle 45, OT
DUBUQUE - Argyle junior Jared Johnson stepped up when the Orioles needed him most.
Johnson drained a 3-pointer with 1:30 left to tie the game at 38 against East Dubuque. East Dubuque jumped out to an early lead in overtime before the Orioles battled back. Argyle senior Nate Thomas scored 19 points to lead the Orioles. Argyle senior Ryan Geissbuhler added 15 points.
Argyle is back in action Thursday when they play at Potosi.
Warren 52, Black Hawk 40
SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead, but the Warriors couldn't hang on in a non-conference loss to Warren.
Warren outscored Black Hawk 18-5 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Black Hawk senior Michael Wolff and sophomore Merik Meythaler each scored 10 points. Black Hawk's Hayden Schliem and Christian Krahenbuhl each added seven points.
Black Hawk will host Belmont Thursday. In other action, Cuba City beat Pecatonica 65-40.
