Monroe's U-14 team wins league title over Baraboo

Monroes U-14 fastpitch softball team won the South Central Girls Softball League championship with a 7-5 win over Baraboo on Tuesday night.
MIDDLETON - The Monroe U-14 fastpitch softball team won the South Central Girls Softball League championship with a 7-5 win over the Baraboo Thunder in the title game at Middleton's Fireman's Park Softball Complex, Tuesday night.

Monroe had a solid day at the plate, picking up timely hits and swiping bases at will.

Leading the way at the plate for Monroe was Kasey Gutzmer, who was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases and Chandra McGuire who was 1-3 with two runs and three stolen bases. Taylor O'Leksy (1-3, two runs), Hanna Buol (1-2 with a run scored) and Kari Jordan (1-2) also contributed on offense.

Becca Armstrong pitched seven solid innings to pick up the win, striking out six.

The SCGSL U-14 league is made up of 19 teams from Southern Wisconsin. The League spans from Reedsburg to the North, River Valley to the West, Miton to the East and Monroe to the South.

Monroe had won the South Division and Baraboo had won the North Division to earn the right to play in the championship game.

Monroe (19-10) will finish their season this weekend at the Beaver Dam Tornado Tournament, taking on the Waupun Warriors in their first game.
